Budgeter back to top
A Budgeter works in a team or alone with adults in our program providing weekly direction in accounting and money management. Reports to Program Director Jeannine Short.
Hours: 6 pm - 7:30 pm Thursday evenings
Objectives and Duties:
- Attend budgeter briefing session from 6-6:30pm Thursday evenings
- Budget with the individual from 6:30pm-7:30pmThursday evenings going through the family’s weekly finances and planning ahead.
- Notify staff of any concerns
Skills needed:
- The ability to assist a family in creating and sticking to a budget
- A call to the community
- A willing heart for those who have been through transition
- Patience
- A motivating and encouraging personality
Early Childcare back to top
An Early Childcare Volunteer works with infants through age 6 - reports to Children's Program Director
Hours: 5:30 pm - 8 pm Tuesday & Thursday evenings
Objectives and Duties:
- Assist as an attendance tracker, chore monitor, supply and snack monitor or birthday coordinator
- Provide leadership and direction in various youth activities such as arts, crafts, dance, ABC’s, movies, song time, games, or whatever creative activity you can teach!
- Diaper and nurture the infants.
- Supervise, feed and clean-up after both the infants and the toddlers during snack time.
- Notify staff of behavioral, learning or other concerns.
Skills needed:
- Openness to children who have been through transition.
- Enjoyment of working with young children.
- An understanding of mutual respect.
- Patience and love.
Children's Life Skills back to top
Life Skills volunteers work with youth ages 6-18 and report to the Children's Program Director
Hours: 5:30 pm - 8 pm Tuesday & Thursday evenings
Objectives and Duties:
- Assist as an attendance tracker, reward monitor, chore monitor, supply tracker, birthday coordinator or snack monitor
- Provide leadership and direction in various youth activities such as arts, crafts, dance, drama, games, or whatever creative activity you can teach!
- Work with children on learning the 300 most common words.
- Lead the children in icebreaker activities and a set evening curriculum.
- Work with the children on life skills such as conflict resolution, problem solving, goal setting, and personal achievement.
- Turn in a weekly activity plan.
- Nurture and encourage the children.
- Notify staff of behavioral, learning or other concerns.

- Patience and love.
- An understanding of mutual respect.
Tutor back to top
Children's Tutors work with youth ages 6-18 and report to the Children's Program Director
Hours: 6 pm - 7:45 pm Tuesday & Thursday evenings
Objectives and Duties:
- Assist as a curriculum tracker, attendance tracker, reward monitor, chore monitor and supply tracker.
- Tutoring will happen in both an individual and group capacity, assisting children with specific homework assignments as needed.
- Design a series of lesson plans that are appropriate for group tutoring sessions of elementary age children.
- Lesson plans will focus on each of the core subject groups; each subject group to be covered over the course of one programming night. The lesson plans ideally will cover the general subject matter for about 45 minutes per programming night.
- Tutors will turn in weekly progress reports to Program Director; these progress reports will discuss the topics covered that week, the subjects the children are working on, and progress they are making.
- Notify staff of behavioral, learning or other concerns.
Skills needed:
- Experience working with children
- Some experience in tutoring or education is a plus
- Openness to experience new challenges
Mentor back to top
Children's Mentors work with youth ages 6-18 and report to the Children's Program Director
Hours: 5:30 pm - 8 pm Tuesday & Thursday evenings
Objectives and Duties:
- The Children’s Mentor will start as a Children’s Life Skills volunteer - through learning about the programming and getting to know our children the Children’s Mentor can establish closer relationships with individual children.
- After an appropriate time period, if the family, child and mentor feel comfortable with the idea of a one-on-one mentoring relationship, then the Children’s Mentor is given the opportunity to spend time with the child outside of the program doing enrichment activities.
- Once the mentoring relationship is established the mentor will set meetings every two weeks with the Children's Program Director to report on the progress of the mentorship, what kinds of activities they are participating in, how the relationship is progressing with the child, and any behavioral observations that they have about the child.
- The mentor will also have monthly meetings with both Children's Program Director and the parents of the child to report on the mentorship.
- Mentors will also be asked to periodically appear as guest speakers on program nights to talk about various activities and to share their experiences with the children in our programs.
